Vans Shoe Store Garden State

heap Frederick

Nature Reserve heap Frederick is the second establishment in the Board of Management Terrils Borinage.
This reserve, fully incorporated by Bing Frederick, is located northeast of Dour, along the brook Chafer.
The major advantage of this reservation lies in its role as landscape, in its role as a relay for the ecological network and its proximity to the neighboring population of Dour and Boussu.

The Frederick Bing, its 131 meters above the valley of Chafer. At its foot, the grazier-wooded character of the valley makes the site more attractive.
The coal mining on the site stopped in the early 30. The heap was then grazed. After the Second World War, left more or less abandoned, it has gradually wooded. Currently, forest vegetation covers most of the heap: a mixed forest of ash and wild cherry trees on the eastern slope and pedunculate oak on the north side. The south-west, less wooded, would, by using appropriate management measures (clearing bracken and thorn) to recreate a typical open lawn.

As for the nature reserve of Mark and surroundings, the proximity the local population is a major advantage of this reservation. This advantage will be exploited in a wider project to educate local people in conservation and the environment.
To learn more about the reserve or to take part in our large project, please contact the two curators of the reservation or to view their own internet blog:
